La Palma

The motor yacht La Palma is an Aquanaut Drifter CS 1300 AK for 6 to 8 people.

This boat is all luxury. The noble design of the Aquanaut Drifter is already in the name - the CS stands for Classic Special. The subtle retro look is emphasised by a surrounding cable fender, air vents made of polished stainless steel and a rounded design mast. The seating area on the aft deck deserves special attention. A modern round bench for up to seven people calls for lovely summer evenings. The convertible top serves as sun and weather protection and is fully foldable. Besides the cosy saloon with TV, the spacious interior offers three sleeping cabins (2 with double bed and 1 with 2 single beds). There is also a bathroom and two toilets. The pantry even has a gas cooker with an oven and there is a washing machine on board.

For this boat, a practical boating lesson is mandatory if one has no experience. This is given in Streefkerk by sailing school Drechtsteden (https://www.vaarschooldrechtsteden.nl). The cost is € 199 for 3 hours of lessons with the boat one has hired.

The sailing lesson consists of:

- 1 hour of theory (explanation of sailing rules of both BPR and RPR, how do I sail on the river, how do I take into account other shipping, what is my place on the water when sailing, etc.) ;

- Getting the vessel ready to sail ;

- 2 hours of manoeuvring in port, mooring, docking, how do I handle the lines ;

- Communication between skipper and crew ;

The practical course can also be booked separately, i.e. before going on holiday. But this can only be done on a date when one of the ships is not rented out. The cost for this is € 350 (half-day use of the ship is then added).

At the end of the course, the instructor assesses whether one can leave safely. If the answer is no, the course is cancelled or extra lessons must be booked.
