Better for our boats and the environment

Blue Diesel has been in use at De Driesprong Yacht Charters in Langelille since 2016.
„We must be able to count on a fuel that does not cause problems such as bacterial growth. The solution to this has been found in Blue Diesel”, says Frans de Vries, owner of
De Driesprong. He is happy to tell us more about it.

Frans de Vries has been at the helm of De Driesprong since 2019. The company was founded in 1961 by his grandfather and grandmother. „My mother and uncle then took over the company. Under their leadership, the camping area is currently being transformed into a Roompot holiday water park. I have the harbour and the shipyard under my care. In the summer, the focus is on renting out our boats; in the winter, we are busy with maintenance at the shipyard. That's an ideal combination for us.”

From 17 to 29 rental boats

„When I started here in 2019, we had two permanent staff members working in the workshop. However, the demand for maintenance and refit work has grown so much that the team has been expanded to five people. As well as maintaining and repairing boats, we also build new ones, such as electric tour boats for the Lovers company in Amsterdam. I started in 2019 with 17 rental boats, and now there are 29.”

Bacterial growth

„The boats are all refuelled here with Blue Diesel. We've been using that since 2016. We had a lot of problems before that. Consider, for example, water in the fuel, bacterial growth and clogged filters. If that happens once, it's not so bad. When the entire rental fleet is struggling with these issues, it becomes a real problem. In winter, the fleet comes to a complete standstill. We must be able to count on a fuel that does not cause problems such as bacterial growth. That is why we actively sought a solution back then. We found it in Blue Diesel.”

Broad support

„We use Blue Diesel 20. Not only better for the boats but also for the environment. We have noticed that this second aspect is also becoming increasingly important to customers. Blue Diesel is slightly more expensive, but there is always some understanding for that. We will also be looking to see if there is broad support among our rental customers for a switch to Blue Diesel 50, which is even better for the environment. My personal expectation is that the outcome will be positive. We have also noticed that more and more private individuals are coming to De Driesprong on their own to refuel with our Blue Diesel. They also find that their engine runs better as a result. They also say there's less smoke and they don't smell the Blue Diesel as much by far.”
